Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Bitcoin Panic (“we”, “us”) is a project of Tech Generation Ltd, a private limited company incorporated in England and Wales in 2014, company number 09248318, registered office Dalton House, 60 Windsor Avenue, London SW19 2RR, United Kingdom. We run bitcoinpanic.com and the free Bitcoin Panic widget app for iOS and Android.
Some context that's worth stating plainly: Tech Generation Ltd builds websites and apps for a living. We have no cryptocurrency business of any kind, we don't trade, hold or manage anyone's crypto, and we're not connected to any exchange. Bitcoin Panic is one of our own projects, built partly because the idea appealed to us and partly to show what we can build. That's the whole commercial interest, and it's why the site and app collect nothing about you.
2. We don't ask you for anything
Neither this site nor the app is designed to collect data about you, and it doesn't ask you for any information whatsoever. There are no contact forms, no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comments and no shopping basket. We haven't built any mechanism to identify you or to build a profile of you, and we don't want one.
We aim to collect no non-essential data at all. What little we do hold is a by-product of putting a website on the internet, described below.
3. Our servers and Cloudflare
We definitely use two things: our own server infrastructure, and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site to serve it quickly and to block attacks.
Like every web server, ours writes access logs. A log line typically records the IP address the request came from, the page requested, the time, the browser's user agent and the response code. Cloudflare records similar information at its edge and may set a cookie of its own for security purposes. We use these logs for two things only: keeping the servers running well, and keeping them secure. We don't use them to work out who you are, and we don't try to link them to anything else.
4. Analytics
We may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Bing to understand which pages people find useful. The purpose is to work out where to improve the site so it serves visitors better, not to follow individuals around. Any such tool is set up to report on traffic in aggregate.
Where an analytics tool is active it will usually set cookies or read identifiers in your browser, and the company behind it will receive data directly from your device. That processing is theirs, not ours, and it's covered by their own privacy policy.
5. Third-party scripts and data
Some parts of a modern website come from other companies: analytics, fonts, images, embedded content and market data. Anything loaded by your browser from another company means that company can see your IP address and basic request details. We can't be responsible for how those third parties treat the data they collect, and you should read their policies if you want the detail.
On this site today that means:
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces, so Google sees the request from your browser.
- The Bitcoin price comes from CoinGecko, but we fetch it from our own server and cache it. Your browser never contacts CoinGecko, so they don't see you.
- Outbound links to exchanges, brokers and news sites. Once you click one you're on their site and their rules apply. Some of those links are affiliate links, which means the destination may know the visit came from us.
6. Cookies
On the website we set one cookie of our own, and only if you use the light and dark theme switch: it remembers which theme you chose. It holds nothing else. The app doesn't use cookies at all. Cloudflare and any analytics tool in use may set their own cookies as described above.
7. The Bitcoin Panic app (iOS and Android)
We also publish a free Bitcoin Panic app for iOS and Android. It's a widget app: its job is to show the Bitcoin price and how it has moved, on your home screen and across your devices. That's the whole product.
The app doesn't collect data about you. To be specific about what that means:
- No accounts and no sign-in. You never give us a name, an email address or anything else, because there's nowhere to enter one.
- No analytics. We don't measure usage, we don't count sessions, and we don't run any analytics or crash-reporting service inside the app.
- No adverts and no advertising identifiers.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no data sold or shared with anyone.
- No in-app purchases, subscriptions or paid upgrades. There are none today and we have no plans to add any.
- Nothing leaves your device except the price request described below. Your settings, such as which figures you want on the widget, stay on the device.
Where the price comes from. The app gets its prices from the public CoinGecko API. We have no relationship with CoinGecko: we're simply a user of their public data, the same as anyone else. The app calls CoinGecko directly from your device, so when the widget refreshes, CoinGecko receives your device's IP address and the usual technical details that any web request carries. That request doesn't pass through us: we never see it and we receive nothing from it. What CoinGecko does with it is covered by their privacy policy, not ours.
The app stores. Apple and Google run their own collection around downloads, installs and crash diagnostics, under their policies rather than ours. We may see anonymous, aggregated figures such as how many people installed the app. We can't identify you from those.
How the project pays for itself. It mostly doesn't, and that's fine. The app earns nothing directly. The only ways this project can ever make money are the affiliate links on this website, if someone happens to open an account with an exchange or broker after following one, and voluntary donations. Neither depends on knowing anything about you, which is a large part of why the app collects nothing.
8. Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights over personal data about you, including the right to ask what is held, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to complain to a regulator. Since we don't ask you for personal data and hold no accounts, in practice there's usually nothing for us to look up beyond raw server logs, and we generally couldn't connect a log entry to you without asking for more information than we'd want to hold. 9. Retention
Server and security logs are kept for a short period, long enough to investigate faults and abuse, and are then rotated away. We keep no other records of visits.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page.
